What To Do After A Car Accident

If you get injured in a car accident,  then you should consider filing a personal injury claim. Here are some steps that will assist you and your attorney in filing a claim for your personal injuries:
  1. Always seek medical attention even if your injuries do not appear serious. Some  injury victims have reported that they started experiencing pain as long as 1 year after the accident. Some of the most painful and dangerous injuries after a car accident are the ones not readily visible, but are only detectable by diagnostic machines such as MRI, CT, x-ray, and the like.
  2. Take pictures of the lacerations, contusions, inflammations, broken or injured bones.
  3. Document all major details related to the accident which includes date, time and place, type of injuries sustained, lost wages and medical expenses. If you were involved in an auto accident, then take a note of the road, weather conditions, and traffic conditions. If you observed any malfunctioning of the traffic signals or any such visible hazards, then do document these details.
  4. Always file an accident report with your local New York police. You should obtain copies of it as well.
  5. Make a note of the names, addresses and phone numbers of  eyewitness to your accident. Witnesses can  give details regarding who was at fault at the time of the accident.
  6. Keep evidence such as the damaged vehicle, a broken step or ripped clothing. These evidence can prove more effective as compared to a written or verbal description. Take photographs of this type of evidence whenever possible.
