The Procter & Gamble company has announced a voluntary recall of two types of Pringles potato chips amid concerns of possible salmonella contamination. The recall, announced on March 8, 2010, affects Pringles Restaurant Cravers Cheeseburger and Family Faves Taco Night flavors of the chips.
The decision to recall the Pringles chips was made after it was discovered that a Las Vegas-based company's hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) might be contaminated with salmonella found on plant equipment. The company in question, Basic Food Flavors, provides the flavor-enhancing HVP that is used on the two Pringles flavors in question.

Procter & Gamble's decision to recall the two Pringles varities was made on a recommendation from the FDA. The agency has recommended that all food manufacturer's with products containing HVP supplied by Basic Food Flavors pull those products from store shelves. The Pringles products being recalled all have "best by" dates of between February of 2011 and May of 2011.
