QUEENS, NEW YORK — A pedestrian was killed and two others injured in a tragic incident when a taxi collided with a vehicle and struck pedestrians on a sidewalk in South Ozone Park early Saturday morning.
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 3:15 a.m. at the intersection of 115th Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard. A Honda Accord was involved in the collision with a yellow cab, which subsequently careened onto the sidewalk, hitting three individuals who were standing at the southeast corner of the intersection.
Emergency responders transported all three pedestrians to Jamaica Hospital for treatment. Tragically, one of the victims, a 51-year-old woman named Vidya Dookran-Franco, succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Witnesses described the scene as horrific, with one individual noting that it appeared “gruesome” to see someone pinned between a vehicle and a concrete wall.
The two other victims, identified as men aged 44 and 49, are currently reported to be in stable condition. The drivers of both vehicles remained on the scene while the Highway Patrol conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
