Scooter Rider Fatally Struck in Queens Taxi Collision

Car accident in Queens

In a tragic incident on Thursday in Queens, New York, a DoorDash driver operating a scooter was struck and killed by a taxi that was reportedly driving the wrong way. The collision occurred near the 59th Street Bridge on Northern Boulevard at approximately 11:50 p.m.

Authorities have reported that the taxi involved, a Toyota Rav 4, was heading against traffic when it collided with the scooter. Emergency response teams arrived promptly at the scene to administer aid to the injured DoorDash driver.

Despite the swift arrival of paramedics and the urgent medical care provided, the victim succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. Following the incident, the taxi driver was taken into custody and faces charges including negligent homicide and reckless endangerment for their role in the accident.

Incidences of wrong-way driving are a significant factor in roadway fatalities each year. Data from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety indicates that from 2010 to 2018, an average of 430 deaths annually were attributed to such crashes. These collisions often lead to severe consequences not only for the wrong-way driver but also for passengers and occupants of other vehicles involved.

Legal firm Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extends sincere condolences to the family of the deceased. They encourage anyone with further information regarding the crash to contact the New York Police Department (NYPD) as investigations continue.
