12-Year-Old Cyclist Struck Following Two-Car Collision in North Bellmore

Car accident in Queens

A young cyclist was hospitalized following a collision involving two vehicles on Thursday afternoon in North Bellmore. The incident, which took place at approximately 4:38 p.m. at the intersection of Oakfield Avenue and Barrie Avenue, close to the Southern State Parkway, left a 12-year-old boy with a broken leg and other unspecified injuries.

The Nassau police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the accident. According to their reports, the collision involved a 2020 Ford Econoline van, driven by a 52-year-old male heading north on Oakfield Avenue, and a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 41-year-old woman. The injured boy was subsequently airlifted to Cohen Children’s Hospital in Glen Oaks, Queens, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

The woman driving the Jeep was also taken to a local hospital to receive medical care. Authorities have yet to release her condition or the nature of any injuries sustained.

Police statements thus far suggest there is no evidence of criminality connected to the accident. The names of both drivers and the young victim have not been disclosed as the investigation proceeds.

Nassau County’s local community is being kept informed of the investigation’s progress, with updates expected to clarify the dynamics of this unfortunate event. The police are asking anyone with information related to the collision to come forward to assist with their inquiries.
