In a tragic turn of events on the Clearview Expressway in Bayside, Queens, a fatal accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist late Saturday night, according to police officials. The collision, which involved a pick-up truck and a motorcycle, occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m.
The incident unfolded when a white 2022 Toyota Tacoma, operated by an unlicensed driver, was changing lanes and was hit from behind by the motorcyclist. The impact sent the rider, a 39-year-old man aboard a 2012 BMW motorcycle, into the guardrail before he fell onto the road surface near Northern Blvd., where he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the pick-up, a 23-year-old man from White Plains, did not remain at the crash site. Authorities later located him roughly two miles from the scene at the intersection of Horace Harding Expressway and Utopia Parkway in Fresh Meadows. He was subsequently arrested and faces charges for fleeing the scene of an accident and for driving without a valid license.
The name of the deceased motorcyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The collision is currently under investigation by local law enforcement as they work to piece together the precise cause of this fatal event.
