Parents of Teenage Driver in Fatal 101 MPH NYC Crash Receive Sentencing

Car accident in Queens

In Queens, New York, a tragic car accident last year has led to significant legal consequences for the parents of a teen driver involved in the incident. Local district attorneys announced the sentencing of the parents, who were charged in connection with the fatal crash that resulted in the death of 14-year-old Fortune Williams. The driver, a 16-year-old male, was operating a BMW at speeds exceeding 100 mph when the crash occurred.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle, a red 2005 BMW 325i, was a gift from the teen’s father. The teenager was driving without a legally required adult in the car—a stipulation he violated as his junior license only permitted him to drive with a licensed adult present. The teen lost control of the vehicle while changing lanes on North Conduit Avenue near 160th Street. The BMW crashed into a parked UPS truck and subsequently collided with a tractor-trailer.

Fortune Williams, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. She suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. In the aftermath of the collision, a UPS worker standing nearby was also injured; he was hospitalized with a leg hematoma, face laceration, and bruising to his chest from the crash.
