School Bus Accident in Flemington NJ Led to 23 Children Taken to Hospital

A school bus accident took place last week on the Main Street circle in Flemington NJ. 23 students were taken to hospital following the accident.

According to traffic officials, an auto driver lost control of the vehicle he was driving that was traveling in front of the Hunterdon Central High School bus. The bus driver was unable to avoid hitting the passenger side of the vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Brianna Goring.

Goring was exiting the circle and heading in a westbound direction on Route 12, when she was unable to control her Dodge Stratus and was propelled into the eastbound side of the highway.

As a result of the accident all students were sent to an area hospital for medical checks. The bus driver, 45 year-old Sandra Dagnall, hurt her back as a result of the incident. The auto driver was charged with careless driving.

Most parents think that when they send their children off to school each morning using school provided transport that they couldn’t be in safer hands. A parent doesn’t expect to be called by the school to be informed that his or her child has been hospitalized due to a traffic accident. The Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP has extensive experience dealing with these sorts of incidents as they are surprisingly common in the New York City metropolitan area and in adjoining New Jersey. It is the legal right of any parent to file a claim for personal injury if his or her child has been injured in an accident on a school bus that was not the child’s fault. Often when a large group of victims are involved in a traffic accident the insurer of the at-fault driver will try to offer token payments to those injured in the accident in hope that this will satisfy the victims rather than going through a more detailed and drawn out claims process.

If you or your child has been the victim of a bus accident that was not your fault you should seek legal information immediately and ensure that you receive just compensation for your injuries. If you fail to take the matter seriously then you may experience financial hardship into the future. Ongoing medical expenses will have to be paid out of pocket. Any rehabilitation will be your responsibility. However, experienced personal injury lawyers at the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP will not only offer a free consultation but will also assess all the possible financial outcomes as a result of the injury. This includes medical expenses, costs of rehabilitation and an amount for pain and suffering. It is not your responsibility to bear the cost of any suffering that was not your fault. Your chosen lawyer will negotiate a sufficient financial package on you or your child’s behalf.

If you do make a claim, you shouldn’t delay it as a statute of limitations applies in New York State, which is 3 years from the date of the accident and even shorter if the accident was caused by a state owned vehicle or on state property. Once that time limit has passed then it will be too late to be compensated for the financial hardship that was not your fault.
