Collision in Queens Sends Two People to Hospital Near Peck Avenue

Car accident in Queens

QUEENS, NEW YORK (October 28, 2024) – A significant traffic collision occurred in Fresh Meadows, Queens, at the intersection of Peck Avenue and Utopia Parkway, resulting in serious injuries to two individuals. The incident took place around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, involving a BMW and a Lexus in a t-bone crash.

Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene following reports of the collision. Two victims, a 20-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and required immediate medical attention. Their current condition has not been disclosed.

Investigators are actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Preliminary reports by New York City officials suggest that the crash may involve factors commonly associated with severe road incidents, such as speeding. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speeding is a leading cause of serious injuries in car accidents, with over 12,000 fatalities linked to speed-related crashes in 2022.

The NHTSA highlights that a substantial percentage of drivers involved in fatal crashes were speeding, particularly among individuals aged 18 to 44. Young men, in particular, have been identified as more likely to speed at the time of fatal incidents. Speeding not only increases the likelihood of a collision, but also exacerbates the severity of injuries when accidents occur.
