Scholarship Essay Contest
Each year, the Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP offers a Scholarship Essay Contest to a deserving student. The winner of the 2025 scholarship will receive $2,500 to further their education. The deadline for applications is June 13, 2025.
Why We Offer This Scholarship
The Law Office of Cohen & Jaffe, LLP maintains strong connections to the Long Island community, where we offer our legal services to people in need. Our entire team strives to serve the community through volunteer work in a wide variety of organizations. Sometimes we help with legal concerns, but we also devote our time and efforts to helping the underprivileged members of our community, as well as those in need of medical support.
“Community service represents a critical aspect of our firm,” founding partner Richard Jaffe says.
“To further extend our commitment to giving back to the community, we want to help today’s young volunteers succeed in their academic and professional pursuits. When they venture out into their own careers, they will, in a way, be continuing our legacy,” Jaffe concluded.
Eligibility for the Scholarship Essay Contest
We encourage all community-driven students who meet the eligibility criteria to apply for our scholarship essay contest.
To be eligible, you must:
- Have a GPA of 2.5 (applies only to students already in college when applying)
- Be admitted to or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or graduate school
- Be a New York State resident
- Provide proof of enrollment as well as a college or high school transcript
- Write and submit an essay on the topic described below
- Agree to the scholarship’s terms and conditions
- Complete and submit the application form

Essay Topic for the Scholarship Essay Contest
To be considered for the scholarship, all applicants must write a 750-word essay on one of the following topics:
Standing Up for Others: A Time You Challenged an Injustice: Think about a time when you stood up for someone else or spoke out against something you felt was unfair. It could be something in your personal life, at school, or in your community. How did this experience change the way you think about fairness and justice? What did you learn from this situation that made you think differently about how the legal system works or how it should work?
The Importance of Community Engagement: Past, Present, and Future: Why is it important for individuals to be actively involved in their communities? Reflect on ways you have contributed to your community so far. Looking ahead, how do you plan to make a positive impact through your future career?
When you have finished writing your essay, please save the document as a Microsoft Word document and attach it to the application form on this page. To meet the essay’s requirements, you may cite anecdotal stories or reference any volunteer projects that you have initiated.
Instructions for Applying for the Scholarship
To apply for the scholarship, please complete and submit the application form on this page.
Applications must be received by June 13, 2025. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered. Winner to be announced by July 15th, 2025.

Claiming Prize: The winner will have one week to claim their prize after they have been notified. If we do not hear back from you within 10 days of our original correspondence, the award will go to the runner up.
