In Smithtown, a tragic incident occurred early Friday morning when a 29-year-old Farmingville man lost control of his motorcycle, leading to a fatal crash, as confirmed by Suffolk County police.
The victim, identified as Cory Fitzpatrick, was navigating his 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on East Main Street in the vicinity of Terry Road when he failed to maintain control of his vehicle at around 3:47 a.m.
In the moments that followed, Fitzpatrick’s motorcycle veered off the roadway, colliding with a curb and subsequently impacting a street sign and a fire hydrant before coming to an abrupt halt against a fence.
Emergency personnel pronounced Fitzpatrick deceased at the scene. The diagnosis was conducted by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office.
Authorities have taken the motorcycle into custody to perform a comprehensive safety evaluation. Detectives from the Fourth Squad are actively investigating the incident and urge anyone with pertinent information to step forward by contacting them at 631-854-8452.
