In a tragic incident in Queens, a motorcyclist lost his life on Saturday morning after being struck by a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway. The fatal collision occurred just after 8:32 a.m. as the tractor-trailer, an Isuzu, abruptly switched into the left lane leading to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
According to police reports, the tractor-trailer driver disregarded the lane markings and veered into the exit lane, where the motorcyclist was traveling. The rider, a 24-year-old male aboard a Yamaha motorcycle, was caught in the tractor’s path. Subsequently, the motorcyclist, Gregory Benning, collided with the passenger side of the large vehicle and was ejected onto the road.
Benning suffered critical injuries to his chest and right leg as a result of the impact. Emergency services were quick to respond, and Benning was transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
Following the collision, the truck driver remained at the scene. No immediate charges have been filed pending further investigation into the cause of this fatal exchange.
Authorities disclosed that Gregory Benning was a resident of the Ozone Park neighborhood in Queens. Local law enforcement is continuing to investigate the events leading up to the accident.
