On Monday morning, the daily commute was disrupted following a tragic accident involving the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). Service along the Ronkonkoma Branch came to a halt when a westbound train struck an individual just east of the Farmingdale station. The incident has caused widespread delays, extending to lines that serve Port Jefferson and Atlantic Terminal.
The affected trains include the 7:10 a.m. Ronkonkoma to Grand Central Terminal train, which was delayed at Deer Park, and the 7:28 a.m. Ronkonkoma to Penn Station train, which was held up at Brentwood. Moreover, the 7:47 a.m. service from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station was rerouted, commencing instead from Farmingdale at 8:12 a.m. Additionally, the 8:14 a.m. Hicksville to Penn Station train was canceled.
Eastbound trains also faced significant delays due to the incident. The 6:16 a.m. from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma was delayed east of Wyandanch; the 6:37 a.m. service from Atlantic Terminal was halted at Hicksville; and the 7:24 a.m. Penn Station to Ronkonkoma train was stopped at Jamaica.
Authorities are still gathering details about the accident, and disruptions continue to affect morning commuters.
