In a violent road rage encounter in New York City, two men have been charged following an altercation that rapidly escalated into attempted murder. The confrontation began on the Queensboro Bridge in Queens and persisted until it reached Manhattan’s Upper East Side around 6:50 p.m. Antal Lakatos, 28, is accused of hitting 38-year-old Shaker Ahmad’s pickup truck with his Mercedes sedan intentionally. After Ahmad fled the initial scene, the dispute intensified when Lakatos pursued and repeatedly struck the pickup, ultimately causing it to crash into a light post.
Upon their arrival at the scene, local law enforcement discovered Ahmad assaulting Lakatos within his vehicle. Ahmad was promptly apprehended and now faces charges including attempted murder, assault, and criminal weapon possession. In contrast, Lakatos, who sustained multiple stab wounds and was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center, is charged with attempted assault. The respective pasts of the two men involved are marred with legal issues; Ahmad served prison time for second-degree assault from 2016 to 2018, while Lakatos has previous arrests for a suspended license and grand larceny auto.
