A fatal hit-and-run accident occurred in Elmont, Long Island, early on the morning of Sunday, October 13. The incident took place at approximately 4:40 a.m. when a 48-year-old man was crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Elmont Road. Eyewitnesses reported that a vehicle struck the man and immediately fled the scene heading westbound on Hempstead Turnpike, according to Nassau County Police.
The victim, later identified as Patricio Rodriguez–Hayes from Queens Village, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the medical efforts, Rodriguez–Hayes succumbed to his injuries several days later. Nassau County Police confirmed that he was pronounced dead at 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 17.
